The Northwestern Political Union

Welcome

The Northwestern Political Union is a community of students united by their common interest in discussion of political and global affairs. Bringing together students of various backgrounds, ideologies, and political persuasions, the Political Union aims to foster a revival of intellectualism, sincerity, and sophistication in Northwestern University’s campus political discourse.

To that end, the Political Union hosts a number of events, forums, debates, and casual gatherings covering a broad spectrum of topics. Throughout the academic year, the Political Union hosts informal, weekly student-run debates. All current Northwestern University undergraduates are welcome to participate. The Political Union also sponsors occasional guest and faculty speaking events, providing interested students with an intimate forum for engagement with leading public intellectuals and political figures.

Founded by a small group of Northwestern University undergraduates in the Spring of 2008, the Political Union’s rapid growth has been mostly contingent on the students-members’ continual satisfaction with the intellectual fulfillment and camaraderie the organization provides. Nevertheless, the Political Union is greatly indebted to various Northwestern University administrators who have provided financial and in-kind assistance to support programming. In particular, Ms. Rita Koryan, Assistant Director of the Buffett Center for International and Comparative Studies, and Dr. Henry Bienen,  former President of Northwestern University, have been instrumental in the Union’s success.

Sincerely,
Ben Armstrong and Nick Ruge
Co-Presidents of the Northwestern Political Union
